Biography
Christopher Dyer, Director Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs
Christopher Dyer has served as the Director for the Mayor’s Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Affairs since February 2007.
Prior to be appointed to his position within the Office of the Mayor, Dyer worked for a variety of non-profit organizations including the American Lung Association where he focused on capacity building, professional development and member services for the organization. He is a graduate of Ithaca College with a bachelor’s degree in history.
A long time resident of the city, Dyer has always been active in the well being of the District. He recently completed his 2nd term as an ANC Commissioner representing the Logan Circle neighborhood of Northwest Washington and now currently serves the city as a Human Rights Commissioner.
In 1997, Dyer founded the Youth Pride Alliance, a 501(c)3 organization that sponsors an annual Youth Pride event for GLBTQ youth and their supporters. Dyer has also volunteered as the marketing and communications committee chair for the Crystal Meth Working Group and Secretary for the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club. He has served also served on ten Capital Pride planning committees. In 2001, Dyer received the Gene Frey Award for Excellence in Volunteering from the Whitman Walker Clinic. In 2003 he was named a Capital Pride Hero for his outstanding contributions to the GLBT community. The Gay and Lesbian Activist Alliance recognized him with their Outstanding Service Award in 2008.
